For the past few months Mary and I have been learning about the Bible in an amazingly fun way thanks to Veritas Bible and their Self-Paced Bible; Old Testament 1- Genesis to Joshua.
I grew up in a Christian school for the majority of my childhood years. From second grade to eleventh to be exact. In our school, other than our normal studies, we also studied Bible everyday. And we also had special services every Wednesday called Chapel where we would hear a sermon type message. Since I had grown up in that type of situation for so many years, I knew when I got pregnant with Mary that I wanted the same for her. And since private school wasn't an option at that point, I decided to homeschool her to be able to teach her about the Bible.
Learning about the Bible was different throughout the years of being in my school. When I was young, my teachers liked to play word games or make up songs to help us remember things better. Still to this day I can tell you all 66 books of the Bible in order from the King James Bible thanks to my second grade teacher, Mrs. Calcutt. She made up a song to help us learn them in order and still to this day it has stuck with me.
Then I got into secondary school and Bible was pretty much memorization and tests. And from those years, I can't really tell you what I learned at all. I want Mary to be able to learn but also have fun while she retains everything. And that's where Veritas Bible has come in.
Veritas Press has an online Bible program that teaches the Bible in a fun way that kids can learn from. Everything is done right online so you'll need a computer or a tablet to be able to access the lessons. But the best part is that the lessons are really fun. Each one of them includes video of your Israelite teachers explaining the lesson to you. They also have games, songs and great memory triggers to help kids retain what they learn.
At the end of each lesson, they have a test that counts towards their grade too. You have to pass to be able to go to the next lesson. And throughout the lesson, there are short quizzes that you have to pass correctly before you can pass onto the next slide.
We were able to review the Old Testament 1: Genesis to Joshua program and I have to say it is completely amazing. The videos kept Mary's attention and I loved that they really went over the material well to make sure she understood what she was learning.
Honestly, this is probably the most fun Bible curriculum I have ever seen. The videos are engaging, the lessons are well written and planned, and it kept Mary's attention very well. She loved how interactive everything was and how it made learning about the Bible really fun.
If you have elementary aged children, I highly suggest this was your Bible curriculum. It is so amazing, plus there is no planning on your part either since everything is done right on the computer. And when your child is done with their test, simply print out their grade for their records. It's the best Bible curriculum we have ever tried and it works so well for our family that I know we will be continuing part Old Testament 1 and onto the others soon!
